triticale

Triticale is a hybrid between wheat and rye developed in 19th Century Europe. Its name derives from the specific species of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale) that were crossed. Across the U.S., triticale is principally used for forage and pasture.

  • the variety “NT09423” is a new University of Nebraska release
  • winter type triticale rated as very late for its maturity; hexaploid
  • plant height is rated short at 114 centimeters, plant color at boot stage is green, stem neck shape is described as straight 
  • flag leaf is twisted and waxy bloom is present on the leaf at boot stage. 
  • grain head is mid-dense, fusiform in shape and awned. Awn color is tan
    and the seed color is amber. 
  • Anthocyanin is absent on the stem.
  • performance data indicates the variety has good winter hardiness
  • Title V -  PVPA protection to be applied for
